First Order of Business, Remove Unsafe Tree

The first time our youngest got to see our new-to-us 1920s home, she was smitten with the large tree and tire swing in the back yard.

One day when walking outside, I noticed I could see sky through a sliver in the middle of the tree.

This is a closeup from a different angle-and long before I considered sharing our journey with the world.

After having a tree guy look at it, we learned it was hollow, and extremely dangerous. Sadly, we had to take it down.

This was one of many unexpected expenses yet still before the decision to stay in the house and renovate it into our (hopefully) “forever -but earthly-home.”

The power company was called out, and we won’t talk about the pole in the very middle of our back yard. We’re hoping to get that moved to the road at a later date. Power was cut off for a couple of hours and the tree was taken down.

It was absolutely the right decision. This tree was massive and hollow through and through.

Shane even stood inside the remaining stump to give everyone an idea of scale. It was estimated to be 200-300 years old.

It was a huge blow to our reserves, but worth the peace of mind knowing our family, our home, and our vehicles were safer.

Now we can more clearly see this beauty, another ancient tree.

Editing our lives, our homes… is costly, is necessary…and is good- when we do it for the right reasons.

You all should metal detect this property- especially near the old trees! Would be fun to see what you find!
